Meeting tonight

The Altar and Rosary of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has moved its August meeting to tonight. The group will meet in the pavilion at 5:30 p.m. for the Rosary and a cookout.

All ladies are invited and one may bring whatever one wishes to drink and a covered dish if one desires.

Funds returned

State Rep. Jack Rader announced earlier this year the Pennsylvania State Treasury returned more than $160,000 to the United Way of Pennsylvania.

Christian ed. position

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, has announced it is seeking a new director of Christian education, for a part-time position of 10 to 15 hours a week.

Prayer Shawl works

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl folks will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. Newcomers are welcome.

Seeking help

Hillside Cemetery Association, a partnership between Effort United Methodist Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church since the late 1800s to oversee and financially supporting the Hillside Memorial Cemetery, is seeking donations for the cemetery’s upkeep.

Donations will help provide much-needed funds for the upkeep of the cemetery.

Donations can be sent to either church.

Survey ending

Pennsylvania Game Commission survey of wild turkeys for this summer ends Saturday.

If you saw or see one by that day, report the sighting on the Game Commission website.

Two events set

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church has two events coming up.

On Friday at 7 p.m. “Awaken - God Is With Us” with Tony Cruz and Dewitt Jones will take place. On Sunday, at both 9 and 11 a.m. services, Jeremy Rosado and Jessie Comrie will hold “ Awaken - God Is With Us.”

Holiday impact

The offices of Effort UMC will be closed on Monday due to the Labor Day holiday.

OES meeting

A stated meeting of Monroe Chapter No. 99, OES, will be held at the Rimrock Masonic Center, 2720 Rimrock Drive, Stroudsburg, at 7 p.m., Sept. 5.

A special guest will visit.

Pavilion concert

Effort UMC is hosting its first Pavilion Concert on Sept. 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., rain or shine. The featured band will be The Kings of Queen Street.

Attendees should bring a lawn chair.

Free food will be available as of 5:30 p.m.

A free will offering for the band will be available.

History deadline

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is asking friends and members to share pictures and memories they have of the church’s history. These can be dropped off in the boxes in narthex or on the round table in the common room.

Please mark your items with name or leave copies with the church.

The deadline is Sept. 8.

That is the same day as the church the Band & Breakfast that day.

The same event is canceled for Sunday, Sept. 29.

Snow removal bids

The deadline for accepting bids for snow removal by the Effort UMC Trustees is Sept. 9.

Touch of Home

A regular Touch of Home meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Sept. 10, at the American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert.

Ross Museum open

The Ross Township Historical Society museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14 .

The museum is located next to the township building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Volunteers will be on hand to discuss the history of Ross Township.

The museum offers an educational experience for youth, and supervised children of all ages are welcome.

Admission is free but donations, both monetary and artifacts that are directly related to life as it was 60-plus years ago, are accepted.

Confirmation class

Effort UMC has announced that Confirmation classes for those entering 6th grade and up in September and who wish to be confirmed in May 2025 will begin in early October.

If your child wishes to be confirmed, contact the church office no later than Sept. 16.

Eldred Cleanup

Eldred Township will hold Fall Clean Up Days from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 20, and from 7 a.m. to noon, Sept. 21.

Items that can be included are small appliances, furniture, car seats, bicycles, mattresses, lawn furniture, grills, baby things, etc. It is free to Eldred residents.

Metals will be recycled so residents are asked to keep them separate.

Tires will be collected for a fee. Check in with the township for the cost.

This will also be the last day for electronics recycling until spring.

Special guest

Effort UMC has invited Pastor Ed Kimes to both Sunday church services on Sept. 22. A gathering with him between the two services is planned.

Fall flea market

The Women’s Group of Effort will be holding its semiannual flea market on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For space rental with your own table, or utilizing a church table and space are different rates. If interested in renting a space/table, contact Joyce Aylsworth at 570-643-3334. Lunch and bake sale items will be available for purchase.

Date reminder

The Buena Vista Cemetery of Brodheadsville organization has announced its basket raffle taking place at the West End Firehouse on Rt. 715 in Brodheadsville on Nov. 2. Doors will open at 1 p.m. The drawing will be at 3 p.m.

Refreshments will be available.
