Franklin Township Supervisors

The Franklin Township Supervisors took the following action last week:

• Extended an unnamed employee’s probation period for an additional 30 days, per the recommendation of the township’s interim road foreman.

• Approved several waivers for the Bobbie Jane Properties land development plan, as well as to approve and have the Operation and Maintenance Agreement for the land development stormwater plans notarized, along with final conditional approval pending all engineering comments are completed. The plans call for construction of a 9,244-square-foot accessory building to support an existing office building on the site.

• Approved a change order in the amount of $4,856 to Shiffer Bituminous for the 2024 seal coat project.

• Accepted the resignation of Robert Correll as a member of the township’s advisory recreation and parks board.

• Approved operation and maintenance agreement for the Pine View Acres lot No. 44 (Barton) Stormwater Plans notarized.

• Signed the 2024 Community Development Block Grant general application.

• Adopted a resolution certifying the County of Carbon will administer the CDBG grant and develop a three-year Community Development Plan on behalf of the township to be submitted with the CDBG grant.

• Agreed to have board Chairman Fred Kemmerer Jr. sign the 2023 Community Development Block Grant cooperation agreement between the County of Carbon and Franklin Township for the fiscal year 2023 CDBG Program Administration.

• Approved the adoption of agreement — PennDOT winter maintenance agreement for a five-year term (2025-29).

• Adopted a resolution for the signature authorization for signing of PennDOT winter maintenance agreement.

• Approved the request to have the Franklin Township fire police assist with traffic control at the intersection of Route 209 and Route 248, as well as the Pennsylvania Turnpike during the 2024 annual bike run for the K-9 KOP Project to be held on Sept. 7.

• Approved the request from the Franklin Township Lions Club for the Franklin Township fire police to assist with parking at the Phifer’s Ice Dam Park during the annual Picnic in the Park to be held on Sept. 22. The time their services would be needed are from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

• Approved the requests from the Borough of Lehighton for the Franklin Township fire police to assist with traffic control on Sept. 28, Oct. 19, Oct. 20 and Oct. 26.

• Announced a change in garbage collection for the Labor Day Holiday. The Sept. 2 pickup has been changed to Sept. 3.

• Announced that an electronics recycling event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 19, for Franklin Township residents only.
