Narrow Valley Sportsplex offers a variety of activities
A new community hub in Carbon County has officially opened its doors to the public.
Narrow Valley Sportsplex, located in Nesquehoning, recently held its grand opening celebration following the completion of Phase 2.
In Phase 1, the batting cages and golf lounge were installed.
Phase 2 added so much more.
The sportsplex is a hub for everything from baseball to weight training, and a lot of sports in between.
It boasts four pickleball courts, two full-size basketball courts, a soccer field, seven batting cages, golf simulator lounge, a two-lane walking track, cardio and weightlifting equipment, and state-of-the art programs to help athletes improve their game.
“It’s amazing to finally, after two years of planning and work, to be at this point where we’re opening,” said Kathy (Kovatch) Reaman, one of the owners of the facility. “To see the excitement in the community about us being open, that has been amazing, just to see all the smiling faces. We thought there was a demand for this, and just hearing everybody so excited about there being something close now and not having to go to Allentown or Scranton or Lancaster (for something like this for sports), it’s why we did it for the community. It’s what we were hoping for and praying for.”
The new venture is the brainchild of Kathy and Ric Reaman and their family. Kathy is the daughter of the late John “Sonny” Kovatch, who founded the former Kovatch Mobile Equipment, the building Narrow Valley is located in today. A portrait of Kovatch, as well as several small reminders from a long family legacy, can be found throughout the building as well.
The Reamans, after purchasing the southern buildings of the complex from former owner REV Group in 2022, following the site closing, had a vision to help create a community hub where people can go to gather, play and enjoy various activities.
During the open house, the full charm of the building showcased the community’s support for the Reamans and the new hub.
People were playing pickleball, signing up to become members, walking the walking track and gathering with friends.
Reaman said the response has been overwhelming.
She also commended the staff that the family hired, which includes several college students to help members.
Narrow Valley is quickly becoming a popular spot for the area, with several clinics and sports coaches coming to provide instruction to athletes.
The sportsplex recently hosted an international soccer clinic, and will welcome Penn State men’s basketball head coach Mike Rhoades from 1-4 p.m. today.
Hours for the sportsplex are 6 a.m. through 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
