Coroner IDS woman who died in crash Kidder crash

The woman killed in last week’s crash in Kidder Township has been identified through DNA testing.

Carbon County Coroner Mark K. Smith said that Begaiym Samudunova, 37, of Des Plaines, Illinois, was driving a truck on Interstate 80 on Aug. 14 when it crashed. The truck was engulfed in flames moments after the crash.

“The Coroner’s Office wishes to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family,” Smith said. “The family had to endure a nine-day wait to confirm identity and move on with arrangements.”

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said the crash occurred at 3:41 a.m. near mile marker 279.8 westbound. Samudunova was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:12 a.m. by Smith.

Police said a passenger, Maftuna Nigmatullaeva, 32, of Brooklyn, New York, was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the Geisinger-Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Police did not release her condition.

Police said the crash occurred when the rig was westbound and abruptly veered off the road, striking a tree and coming to rest facing southwest in the center median before catching fire.

Samudunova was found deceased in the driver’s seat while Nigmatullaeva was found by a passer-by unresponsive outside the vehicle, near the driver’s side.
