The swimming area at Mauch Chunk Lake has reopened for the weekend.

Dave Horvath, director of the park, announced the reopening this morning. The swimming area was closed early this week due to higher than allowed bacteria levels.

The county could not allow swimming until water tests showed levels had decreased.

Horvath also announced that the swimming area will be closed Monday through Friday next week due to no lifeguard coverage.

Swimming will be open over the Labor Day weekend and holiday.

The swimming season at Mauch Chunk Lake ends Sept. 2.
