Volunteers needed

The Weatherly Hillclimb Association is looking for volunteers for the upcoming hillclimb event Sept. 14 and 15.

Volunteers are needed as corner workers, timing workers, announcers and general help. The positions are vital for the safety of all the drivers, teams and spectators.

Guidance and training will be provided for anyone interested in volunteering. Those interested should call Joe Cyburt at 570-582-6292.

Labor Day

Weatherly residents are reminded that due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday, the borough office will be closed on Sept. 2, and reopen on Sept. 3.

Utility bills and permit applications may be placed in the drop box located at the front of the borough building. Items must be in sealed envelopes and marked accordingly.

Also, garbage pickup will change to Sept. 3, due to the holiday. There will not be collection on the Monday.

Lead surveys

Weatherly residents are asked to return lead surveys sent out last year. The surveys mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are due Oct. 16.

All community and non-community water systems must submit a service line inventory to identify the material of all service lines connected to the public water distribution system. The borough is asking residents to comply and fill out the surveys.

Any resident who needs another survey should contact the borough office at 570-427-8640 Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or go this link: https://weatherlyborough.maps.arcgis.com/home/index/html.

Tax collector news

The Weatherly tax collector reminds all residents that tax bills for the Weatherly Area School District have been mailed, and the discount value applies until Sept. 15.

Weatherly Borough and Carbon County real estate and per capita taxes are now due for the penalty value Aug. 1 to Dec. 31.

People should make separate checks or money orders payable to Deborah A. Kohler, tax collector, for each tax listed above.

Payments can be dropped off or mailed to 794 North St., Weatherly, PA 18255. Copies of bills and self-addressed stamped envelope should be enclosed, if a “Paid” receipt is requested.

Candlelight vigil

The Weatherly Faith Church, 560 Third St., will host a candlelight vigil for International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Eurana Park.

There will be live music, personal testimony and food and drinks. Bring a lawn chair.

Anyone wishing to donate or participate, contact Lenore Scatton at 484-464-1604 or Pastor Sal Reyes at 570-578-9792.
