Hoagie orders
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is accepting orders for 8-inch hoagies, with chips, through Aug. 31. Choose from turkey, ham or Italian and add-ons of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar or mayo. Orders must be prepaid and order forms are available at the church office or click on the link on the church’s website or Facebook page. Pick up times are Sept. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Sept. 8, after the 10:30 a.m. worship service until noon. Proceeds to benefit the Willing Workers.
Photography display
This Saturday will be the final viewing time for the photography works of Derek Lederer on display in the Gallery at Kettle Creek. The gallery will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Preregistration is not required for the program. There is no charge. Call 570-629-3061 with any questions.
PVEN summer stats
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network announced stats in regard to the 2024 Summer Meals Program. Those stats include: July, 1,306 youngsters fed/6,530 meals distributed; July 1, 720 youngsters fed/8,600 meals distributed; Aug. 1,300 youngsters fed/6,500 meals distributed.
In addition, the monthly statistics for the PVEN’s July outreach served the following: food pantry — 200 families, 825 individuals; clothing closet — 54 families, 171 individuals; pantry — 106 families served; menstrual hygiene pantry — 200 people served.
Current needs: Food Pantry — condiments, pasta (both dried and canned), canned vegetables and stuffing mix; Clothing Closet — deodorant and body wash, shaving cream and disposable razors; dental care items for children and adults; Diaper Pantry — adult-sized pull ups and bladder pads; baby formula, bed protector pads.
Eldred meeting
The Eldred Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. tonight.
Apple picking

Free movie time
St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg is again showing the movie “Sandlot” on its big outdoor screen on Aug. 23. The public is welcome.

A public hearing is to be held concerning a solar ordinance at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Polk Township Municipal Building in Kresgeville.
Knit & Crochet

The Son of the American Legion meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion in Gilbert.
WE Republicans
The next regular scheduled meeting of the West End Republican Club is Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Chestnuthill Star Diner, 2187 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Folks planning to eat there are asked to come an hour earlier. Currently members are manning the club stand at the West End Fair.
Turkey tally ends
The PA Game Commission is seeking input from the public in surveying wild turkeys this summer. The survey continues through Aug. 31.

OES meeting
The Monroe Chapter No. 99 OES will hold a stated meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 5. The group is supporting an annual car show and tricky tray at Red Robin in Bartonsville. All proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Pavilion concert
Effort UMC is having a Pavilion Concert on Sept. 7. Food will be available and a freewill offering will be accepted for the evening’s musician(s).
Religious education
The Parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church offers a religious education from kindergarten 12th grade from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sundays.

Fusion returns
Middlecreek Christian Church, 343 Dorshimer Road, Kresgeville, has announced this year’s Fusion event. It will take place Sept. 13-15 at the church and includes the music, fun, food, ministry and camping. The entire event is free.
The help with costs, love offerings will be accepted any time during the event.
Bring your own camping gear and camp the entire weekend, or just come for the day. The event begins with Friday’s 5 p.m. dinner and great family games followed by music from “Jordan River Ramblers.”
Enjoy the movie “Unsung Hero” under the stars and concluding the evening with a Campfire Bible Study.

Fall sale ahead
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 164 Merwinsburg Road, Effort, is having a fall rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12. Items for sale will include: clothes — ladies, men, children — shoes, household goods, toys, books, knickknacks, etc. The event will be open for lunch and baked goods.
Free cleanup event
State Rep. Jack Rader is inviting Monroe County residents to a free drive-thru Shredding/Fall Cleanup day event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19 in the parking area in front of the raceway ticket office at 1234 Long Pond Road in Long Pond, with courtesy and cooperation of Pocono Raceway.
Residents are asked to remain in their respective vehicle, and they will be visited by a member of Rader’s staff. The limit for paper shredding is four copy-paper sized boxes per vehicle. Additional items that may be brought include: up to four old tires per vehicle for free; outdated prescription drugs; faded and worn flags; prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses and hearing aids; and gently used children’s books.

Christmas play set
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville has announced the Brodheadsville Christmas play with performances set for both services; 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Dec. 22.
