August 16, 1971 — Ricky Morgans comes within one out of a no-hitter during Nesquehoning’s 18-2 Panther Valley Little League tournament victory over Coaldale. With two outs in the sixth, the no-hit bid by Morgans is broken up when Jody Price drops a single over the Nesquehoning infield. Morgans also excels at the plate, finishing the contest 4-for-4. Jim Viania went 5-for-5, all doubles, and scored three runs, while Steve Tessitore collected four hits, two of them homers and one a double. The winners, who banged out 22 hits, also received a homer from Gary Higgins and three hits from Joe Staivecki.
