Lehighton council outlines 2024 paving projects

Lehighton has outlined this year’s paving projects.

Borough council discussed 2024 paving projects last week.

Borough Manager Dane DeWire noted that council authorized he and the Public Works Department to begin this year’s paving projects, which were on hold until the borough began working on its $1.4 million pipe lining project.

The tentative list, which totals $164,200, is as follows:

• Ninth Street, Mahoning Alley to Mahoning Street, $2,400.

• First Street, Alum Street to Bridge Street, $15,300.

• Hamilton Street, beginning to end, $18,900.

• Twelfth Street, Cypress Street to Mahoning Street, $31,900.

• Seventh Street, top of hill to Bridge Street, $50,500.

• Queen Alley, Cypress Street to Mahoning Alley, $7,500.

• Queen Alley, Cypress Street to Coal Street, $5,800.

• Division Alley, beginning to end, $7,500.

• Fourth Street, Ochre Street to dead end, $23,300.

• Fourth Street, Coal Street to Coal Street, $1,100.

However, DeWire noted that Seventh Street is being pushed back to the 2025 budget. Because of how wide it is, it will cost over $50,000 to repair it from Bridge Street to the top of the hill.

“We may temporarily patch some of the bad spots to get us through winter, but it will be looked at seriously next year instead,” he said.

DeWire said that to help out a resident at the corner of Fourth and Cypress streets, the borough will work on the catch basins before the resident does sidewalk repairs.

“That will hold us up on paving, so we’ll be starting with the smaller jobs like Ninth, Fourth, and Queen,” he said.
