At a time when there is a police officer shortage, Washington Township can take solace in the fact it has coverage.
Jason R. Troutman, station commander of the state police barracks in Bethlehem, attended last week’s board of supervisors meeting to give updates on the number of calls for the area.
Troutman noted that the township is covered by Pennsylvania State Police, which has rolling shifts so that the township always has coverage.
Troutman spoke about the nationwide shortage of police officers. He said he’s been in law enforcement for the past 22 years and lives in the Lehigh Valley with his family.
Troutman said that state police troopers, just like local police officers, try to visit as many events as they can, such as Coffee with a Cop, Treats with Troopers for Halloween and local National Night Out.
