Coaldale man charged in noise incident

Coaldale police charged Kevin Keller, 53, of Coaldale, with obstructing administration of law and disorderly conduct for unreasonable noise following a 2:18 p.m. incident on Aug. 8.

According to police, officers were on a traffic stop on Fisher Avenue when a man who was cutting hedges told them that he believed a domestic incident was happening nearby because he heard a lot of yelling.

Police said they could hear the commotion and visited the house. A woman on the front porch said that everything was OK.

Officers knocked on the door and were met by Keller, who police said was upset because they were there. Keller said there was no yelling inside the house, according to police.

When police said they could hear the yelling from a distance away, Keller began yelling that nothing was going on and started walking away. Officers told him that he was not free to leave because they were investigating a possible domestic situation.

Officers went to the porch, and as Keller was attempting to go inside, they grabbed him by the arm, police said. Keller fell to the floor and shut the door. Another resident came outside and said that everything was fine, but police said they needed Keller to come back outside and that they needed to check the home. Keller returned outside and was placed in handcuffs, officer said.

Police were allowed inside for a safety sweep and found nothing out of the ordinary. They were told by two others that the yelling stemmed from a video game they were playing.

A preliminary hearing for Keller is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. Sept. 24 before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer in Tamaqua.
