The 53rd Annual Switchback Scamper will take place Sunday, Sept. 29.

The race begins at 2 p.m. in Summit Hill and finishes at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The long standing race takes participants down the famous Switchback Trail.

Registration can be the day of the race from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Koch/Wildoner Pavilion at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. You can also register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/PA/JimThorpe/SwitchbackScamper. In addition, applications can be found on the St. John’s Lutheran Church website at stjohnsinjimthorpe.org.

The first 100 entries receive a T-Shirt. Awards are presented in men’s and women’s categories by ages. Refreshments are provided by the church and are free.

The increase in festival traffic has prompted the decision to move the race into September this year by the sponsor of the event — St. John’s Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave. in Jim Thorpe — for the safety of the participants.
