Fair closed today, open for weekend
The Carbon County Fair is closed tonight as Tropical Storm Debby makes it way up the coast.
But, that doesn’t mean the fun has ended altogether, as the 25th annual event will still be open Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday will feature a Kids Day Drawing and Little Princess Contest at 5 p.m. The Fabulous Greaseband will perform at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage. Micro Wrestling, a hit last year, will be back at 6 p.m. in the arena.
The fair has been extended until Sunday, when the cost of general admission is $7. It will be open from noon to 8 p.m. There is an additional $8 fee for the demolition derby in the arena. Gates open at noon, and the demolition derby starts at 2 p.m.
Waitin’ on Sundown, a country band, will perform from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Ride bracelets will be $20.
In lieu of the weather, a good majority of the vendors plan to stick it out, according to fair President Malinda Fox.
“The only thing we won’t have is our exhibit area; most of those people will have picked up.” Fox said.
Despite the hand the fair’s been dealt, Fox said they’re doing their best to put on the best show possible.
“We’re discouraged that we didn’t have a great week, but we are extending it through Sunday,” she said. “The weekend forecast looks beautiful, and the vendors are here waiting to serve with all their mouthwatering foods.”
Fox thanked fairgoers for their cooperation as the fair continues to navigate through the muddy waters.
“We’re doing our best to fix the midways; we did get two loads of stone,” she said. “It’s muddy, there’s no way around that, (but) we’re doing our best.”
The fair is held at the fairgrounds along Little Gap Road in Palmerton.
