Blue Mtn. church hosts Family Fun Day for the needy

Blue Mountain Community Church will host a Family Fun Day to raise funds for the homeless and those less fortunate.

The fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church at 25 Oak St., Palmerton to benefit Blue Mountain Community Church Impact Ministry, which assists nonprofit organizations and groups within the community with helping others in time of need.

Member Sharon VanderMeyde said there will be a basket raffle with over 100 items, including NFL and NHL signed items, big screen TV, grill, Craftsman tool set, bikes, gift cards, Swarovski jewelry and more. The drawing is at 2 p.m.

There will be games and crafts, food (hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken bowls), bake sale, and a bounce house.

“We’ve had the privilege of providing a Giving Tree every year for the last three years in Palmerton where we fill up a Christmas tree in the park with toothbrushes, hats, gloves, blankets for the homeless or those less fortunate,” VanderMeyde said. “Last year, we supplied over 1,000 items.”

They also assisted Family Promise during Christmas, and provided the workers and 16 families that were displaced with a family holiday meal and gifts for the children.

“It was just to bring a sense of normalcy during the challenging times,” she said. “We wanted them to feel they were at home even though they didn’t have a home.”

The church provides blankets to Lily’s Hope for premature babies.

“We were able to donate all new blankets for them to use for their premature babies,” she said. “We just received a thank-you letter from them, which made us feel really good; everybody is all really excited to help out as much as possible.”
