Lunch reminder

Free summer meal for kids are available from the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network Food Pantry on Thursdays, from 8 a.m., through Aug. 15. Drive through PVEN any Thursday to pick up five days of free healthy lunches to take home for your child/children, no questions asked. Just tell the PVEN how many children you have, and, “We will do the rest.” Any questions? Call 570-992-3136.

Tole painting told

Linda Koehler was featured speaker at the recent Western Pocono Women’s Club meeting. She introduced the technique of Tole painting, and detailed how she got started in the hobby. In addition, she brought examples of pieces that she has done. A raffle for a piece of art was won by Ellen Newell. The club also hosted sign-ups for the next two activities: cleaning the group’s West End Fair stand and signing up for soup-making day next week.

Bingo night

It’s open to the public bingo night again Monday at the American Legion in Gilbert. Ticket sales begin at 6:30 p.m. Calling the numbers begins at 7 p.m.

OTOH meeting

Operation Touch of Home will meet at the Brodheadsville Legion at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Communion Sunday

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, has announced Communion will be observed during the 9 and 11 a.m. services on Sunday.

Pizza pickup

For those who ordered pizza from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effort, a reminder that the pickup and pay (cash only) time is at the church at 164 Merwinsburg Road, between 4 and 5 p.m., Friday.

Item collection

Pauline Restea will be the featured guest at the Monday meeting of the Western Pocono Women’s Club. At that meeting, the club will be collecting items for the Pleasant Valley High School students. The items on the nurse’s “wish list” include deodorant, body spray, tampons, pads, hygiene wipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and hand sanitizer.

Giving musicians

West Enders Robert and Nadine Hinton spread joy to local seniors with their musical abilities, playing at a multitude of senior facilities around the county via RSVP. They have done this at places like Pleasant Valley Manor, Bush’s, Gluco Lodge, and many other places and situations. Anyone who has a musical talent and would like to share with others, or just have a desire to volunteer, can contact Neal or Erica at the Monroe County RSVP Office for more information at 570-420-3747.

Operation Touch of Home will hold its regular monthly meeting for August at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Blood drive set

Cornerstone Community Church, Kreesgeville, will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Aug. 14, from 1 to 6 p.m. Individuals wishing to sign up can do so with the link https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/login or call the church for help at 610-681-3758.

Polk Township will hold a general meeting at 8 a.m. Aug. 15.

Turkey survey

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is still seeking input from the public in surveying wild turkeys this summer, now through Aug. 31. One can report sightings through the commission’s website.

Austin’s Blue Line

A motorcycle ride/rally will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17. Activities begin at 9 a.m., with kickstands up at 11:15 and a barbecue starting at 1 p.m. The event is not just for motorcycle riders, say organizers, adding that people can bring the family out for a fun time at the American Legion on Gilbert Road, Gilbert. Kids Fair

Pocono Mountain Harley-Davidson is holding a “Kid’s Fair” from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Pocono Harley Davidson, 110 Hill Motor Lodge Road, Tannersville. Children will be able to pick up a free backpack of their choice if needed. If there are leftovers, the club will distribute them at individual schools.

Free movie again

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, will show a movie on the church’s outdoor big screen beginning at dusk on Aug. 23. The public is welcome to join the church family behind the church building to enjoy an evening of togetherness. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket. St. Peter’s UMC is at 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg.

Pavilion concert

Effort United Methodist Church has scheduled a pavilion concert for Sept. 7. The Kings of Queen Street is slated to entertain from 5:30 to 7 p.m., rain or shine. Bring a lawn chair. Free food will be available at 5 p.m. The free will offering for the band will be accepted.

Think Christmas

Plans are afoot for the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church to present its children’s Christmas Play during both services, 9 and 11 a.m. on Dec. 22.
