Slatington library launches reading program

The Slatington Public Library will be launching a new program called “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” on Aug. 19.

Funded by the Slatington Rotary Club, this endeavor will encourage parents to read a book to their newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books before a child starts kindergarten.

Stop by the Slatington Public Library to pickup a folder that will include instructions, a workbook to document your child’s progress, and a new book to read to your child. When your child reaches a milestone, such as Book 100, Book 200, etc … return to the library for your child to receive a reward.

Librarians Rosanne Pugh and Louise Bechtel will be glad to answer any or your questions and/or help you get started with this awesome adventure.

In initiating this program, the Slatington Public Library adheres to its mission statement “to improve and enrich the lives of the residents in our community through information, recreation, and education, using both traditional methods and emerging technologies.”

Continue to check the library’s website for updates about the program and to reach out to your friends and family to spread the good news. This program offers a rolling enrollment so any time for you will be a good time for the library and its staff and volunteers to help you get started.

The Slatington Library is located at 650 Main St., Slatington.
