Olympics Day 6: Our national anthem and a real French éclair

Editor’s note: Anna Laible of Lehighton is covering the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, with a team of fellow journalists from the University of North Carolina. She is reporting regularly on her experience there for the Times News.

After getting back after 3 a.m., I had the chance to sleep in a little bit. Then I headed to the Trocadero to meet with some other UNC students for an interview and we ran into the filming of the “Today Show,” so that was really cool to see up close.

Later, I tried an éclair from a local restaurant and it was the best one I’ve ever had — not surprised that they are known for them.

What followed was truly the highlight of the trip so far — getting to say that I, at 19 years old, was able to cover Simone Biles and Suni Lee in the all around final at the Olympic Games.

The atmosphere was incredible, just another example proving that women’s sports can sell out arenas. Loved having the chance to see the medal ceremony with the national anthem played for the first time and to hear from both of them afterward.

After I finished my story and took the metro back, I grabbed some ramen for dinner after midnight and then called it a night.
