Monroe bridges to close for repair, open by end of month

Several bridges in the West End will be closed, one today, and another as of Monday, then be reopened by the end of the month.

The Route 115 bridge in Chestnuthill Township is being repaired as part of a contract to repair 12 bridges in Northeastern Pennsylvania, said Ron Young, district press officer, PennDOT.

Young said the Route 115 south detour will begin today and last through Aug. 31. Route 115 north will remain open.

The Route 115 south detour will use Gilbert Road, Route 209 and Weir Lake Road.

He said this contract consists of bridge repairs including concrete deck repairs, deck overlays, deck joint repairs/replacements, bearing replacements/retrofits, substructure concrete repairs, and other miscellaneous construction.

Young said the bridges in Carbon County are:

Young said the overlay work on three Route 209 bridges will begin Monday.

He said two of the bridges are in Polk Township and one is in Chestnuthill Township.

Young said Route 209 will remain open during the bridge deck overlays, but will be restricted to a single lane with flaggers weeknights between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. at all three bridges.

The deck overlays at these three bridges is expected to last one-to-two weeks, he said.
