National Night Out events set for Tuesday

It’s an interactive event that brings law enforcement and neighbors together to help enhance community building.

Various police departments throughout the region are set to host National Night Out events on Tuesday, complete with visits from emergency personnel, safety demonstrations and exhibits.

Carbon County

• Lehighton Borough Police Department, 5-8 p.m. at Baer Memorial Park. It will include music from DJ “The Doc,” a scavenger hunt with prizes, a dunk tank, with proceeds to help support “Shop With Cop at Christmas,” a Bounce House for kids, large yard games (cornhole/Tic-Tac-Toe), medevac helicopter landing and Lehighton Fire Department, along with a simulated accident scene/use of tools demonstration.

• Palmerton Borough Police Department, 6-8 p.m. in the borough park. The event is sponsored by Blue Ridge Communications and Cheng Law Offices. It will be followed by the Concourse Club of Palmerton’s Movie in the Park at 8:30 p.m.

• Jim Thorpe Borough Police Department, 6-8 p.m. in Memorial Park. Due to the delay in the Memorial Park Playground Project, the event was supposed to take place at the high school baseball field, but since construction hasn’t started, it will again be hosted in Memorial Park.

• Nesquehoning Recreation Center, 6-8:30 p.m. near the recreation center on West Railroad Street. The group will partner with Nesquehoning Police Department, several area businesses and committees. There will be a photo booth, bounce house, fire trucks, hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy and more. They are asking for donations of items, which will be given to the Carbon County Animal Shelter.

Schuylkill County

• Tamaqua Police Department, 5-8 p.m. at the lot behind the American Hose Fire Company at Pine and Mauch Chunk streets, across from Stoker’s Brewing Company. There will be complementary food and ice cream, music, a bounce house and entertainment for all ages. Police and emergency responders will display vehicles as well.

• Coaldale Community Crime Watch, 6-8 p.m. behind the Coaldale Fire Company grounds at 121 W. High Street. St. Luke’s Health Network, St. Luke’s Physical Therapy, Lifelong Learning Center, Coaldale Police Department, Coaldale Fire Department, Crime Watch, Coaldale VFW, Coaldale American Legion, Coaldale Auxiliary, CHOSE (will be selling food and drinks), Lansford Halloween Special Events, Panther Valley Women’s Club, United Methodist Church, Jon Bonner (magic show) and Justin Credible (balloon animals) are expected to be on hand. Crime Watch distributes free hot dogs and water (while supplies last), pencils, wristbands, tattoos, free entry for kids raffle and adult safety raffle.

Northern Lehigh area

• Slatington Police Department, 5-8 p.m. Northern Lehigh High School. It will consist of police, fire and EMS vehicles on display, food trucks, dunk tank, bounce house, face painting, music and raffles.

• Lehigh Township Police Department, 6-9 p.m. Indian Trail Park, Lehigh Drive (Route 248) and Indian Trail Road. There will be food, games, raffles and vendors, along with music by Steel Creek Band. New for this year is a mechanical bull.
