Cope part of 2024 Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame class
Brooke Cope — a 2017 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School, and a 2020 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology — is a member of the 2024 Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame class.
Cope was a standout track and field athlete for the Olympians.
During her sophomore year, she was the Schuylkill League champion in the javelin and the shot put, while also collecting a District 11 gold in the javelin and a third place in the shot put.
In her junior year, she came home with a Schuylkill League title in the shot put and a third place finish in the javelin. Cope finished second in the javelin that year in the district and finished fifth at the PIAA state championships.
Cope also qualified for and competed in the 2016 Penn Relays in the javelin.
Cope was battling a torn UCL injury during her senior season, but still finished fourth in the league in the javelin and second in the shot put. Despite the injry, she brought home the District 11 championship in the shot put.
Cope holds the school records at Jim Thorpe for both the javelin and the shot put.
Cope had an outstanding career at Penn as well. She qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2018 (javelin) and was the 2018 Outdoor Ivy League Heptagonal champion. In 2018, she was named to the first team All-Ivy League squad in the javelin.

The 2024 Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame clas also includes: Kayley Kovac, Joe Eichhorn Sr., Kevin Vitti, Kelsey Carroll and the 2015 boys track & field team. Every Saturday through Aug. 24, a different inductees’ bio will be published in the Times News.
