The new Lehighton Girl Scout day camp officially opened today at the Heilman Dam. Its staff members met yesterday afternoon at the camp site and decided to call it Camp Gratitude.

Mrs. Anette Laybourne, chairwoman of the Lehighton Girl Scout Council, said the name was selected in gratitude and gratefulness to all who gave of their time, effort, materials and supplies to make the camp possible.

The new camp was leased from the Borough of Lehighton and relied on volunteer workers in the past the months to make it ready for its opening. Among those who were instrumental in its success are Earl Haydt, Edward Burke, Harry Steigerwalt, Russell Miller, Allen Nothstein and Lee Moyer.
