Roman sisters capture titles

Palmerton sisters Rachel and Rylee Roman have both enjoyed plenty of success in recent gymnastic competitions.

Rylee, who is 14 years old, and Rachel, who is 11, both train with Tumble with Denise in Lehighton.

On April 20, both girls competed in the Xcel Gold States competition at Freedom High School in Bethlehem.

Rylee finished first in floor with a 9.625 score. She also placed second in the vault (9.325) and second in the all-around (36.75).

Rachel earned a sixth-place finish in floor with a 9.45 and seventh-place finishes in bars (9.25) and all-around (36.1).

Both girls qualified for the Region 7 USA Xcel Gold competition by having scores over 35.0 in the all-around in the state tournament.

At the Region 7 competition that was held from May 16-19 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Ryleee placed in four different individual events and captured the Regional all-around championship with a score of 37.825.

Her individual event scores were 9.6 in floor (second place), 9.5 in the vault (second place), 9.5 on the bars (fourth place) and 9.225 on the beam (seventh place).

Rachel was the individual champion in the floor with a 9.6 score. She also finished fourth on the beam with a 9.4 score.
