State police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:

• Dawn M. Marasco, 49, of Blakeslee, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:26 a.m. July 4 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.

Police said she was injured to the wrist and neck but refused medical treatment at the scene.

They said she was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound when it struck a deer that entered its path of travel and was struck. The vehicle was towed from the scene, police said.

• Errol J. Hoogendoorn, 57, of Albrightsville, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a one-vehicle crash at 12:50 a.m. July 4 on Penn Forest Trail in Penn Forest Township. He was not injured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 northbound when it failed to maintain its lane of travel, left the roadway and struck a tree. The truck was towed from the scene.

Police said Hoogendoorn had minor cuts to both knees but refused to be evaluated by emergency medical services personnel.

• Two vehicles were damaged in a crash in the parking lot of the CVS store, Route 115, Chestnuthill Township. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said the driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling through the lot when he became distracted and the car struck a parked 2015 Subaru Impreza.

Police said the Malibu had minor damages and was driven from the scene, while the Subaru had moderate damages and was towed from the scene.

Police did not identify the drivers, nor their residences.

• Kevin J. Young, 40, of Effort, was cited for careless driving after a two-vehicle crash at 10:35 p.m. June 19 on Wawa Road in Chestnuthill Township. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said Young was driving a 2020 Dodge Challenger directly in front of the Wawa store when it struck a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Caleb Cadet, 37, of Blakeslee.

Police said Young fled the scene and was identified by surveillance cameras.

• Daisy M. Ruiz, 26, of Effort, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a two-vehicle crash at 3:22 a.m. June 26 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said she was driving a 2022 Subaru Legacy that was northbound when she failed to stop for a red light at the intersection with Old Route 115 and the car was struck by a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 operated by Leondrey K. Smith, 42, of Stroudsburg. Police said the impact resulted in the Legacy being pushed into a metal traffic signal support pole.

Police said Ruiz and a passenger, Noah A. Drayton, 25, of Stroudsburg, had to be freed from the Legacy and were transported by personnel from the MedEvac staff to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg. Police said the severity of their injuries is unknown.

Smith was transported to the Pocono hospital as well, police said.

• Two people were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 1:10 p.m. July 7 on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township.

Police said Ramon Gonzalez, 69, and Veronica Garcia-Villegas, 37, both of East Orange, New Jersey, were transported by personnel from the Pocono Mountain Regional Emergency Medical to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus. They were passengers in a 2015 Ford Transit driven by Antonio G. Ciriaco, 41, also of East Orange. He and a third passenger were uninjured, police said.

They said the crash happened when the Transit was eastbound and its left rear tire blew out, causing it to spin sideways across the right lane and off the south shoulder of the road. It continued down an embankment where it struck a tree and flipped over, coming to rest on its roof.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, police said.

• A 41-year-old Tobyhanna man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a one-vehicle crash at 11:33 p.m. July 4 on Running Valley Road in Jackson Township.

Police said he was driving a 2019 Dodge Ram truck when it crashed.

• A 26-year-old woman from Effort is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after a crash at 3:22 a.m. June 26 at the intersection of Route 209 and the Wilkes-Barre Turnpike in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said she was driving a 2022 Subaru that was involved in a crash with a 2015 Dodge Ram truck.

Police did not provide the details of the incident but said others involved were a 25-year-old man from Elkins Park and a 42-year-old man from Stroudsburg.
