Woman slumped in running vehicle, charged with DUI

A White Haven woman faces driving under the influence and other charges after she was found slumped over the wheel of running vehicle in Weatherly in early June.

Weatherly police responded to the area of Maple Street, where Tara Ashman’s vehicle was causing a traffic problem and she appeared to be passed out with the vehicle running, officers said.

She also had noticeable signs of narcotics use, police said. When an officer roused her awake, she immediately attempted to put the vehicle in drive to leave, police said.

She was given a standard field sobriety test and taken into custody for DUI. Ashman was taken to Weatherly police headquarters, where she showed multiple signs of impairment of a controlled substance, officers said.

Following a blood test, she transported to her residence, where she was turned over to a responsible party, police said.

Police charged her with driving under the influence, four counts; illegal parking and an improper stop. A preliminary arraignment and hearing is scheduled for Aug. 7.
