LDI to host movie in park, Christmas events

From a Movie in the Park to Christmas in July to the Downtown Farmers Market, it’s shaping up to be a busy weekend in Lehighton.

The Lehighton Downtown Initiative will present Movie Night in the Park and Christmas in July, said Bambi Elsasser, the community operations director for LDI.

Movie Nights in the Park start back up on Friday, said Elsasser, who noted that the LDI is excited to bring Movies in the Park back to the amphitheater.

“The LDI created a poll and asked the community’s input,” Elsasser said. “Guardians of the Galaxy” was the number one requested movie in the poll.

Elsasser said the movie is free to the community, and encouraged people to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the movie.

She said they may dress like their favorite Guardian, and added the movie will start at dark. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

Elsasser said future movies in the park will include “Encanto” on Aug. 3 and “Wish” on Sept. 14.

Christmas in July

The LDI will present its seventh annual Christmas in July event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lehighton Downtown Borough Park.

Guests can experience Christmas festivities in the warm weather of July, and stroll through the park to admire the Christmas decorations while listening to live Christmas music performed by Autumn Falls Entertainment and Mark & Marty.

Elsasser said there will be over 30 vendors with a variety of goods to please everyone’s needs.

In addition, she said there will be food, snacks and drink to pleasure everyone’s palate.

Also, Elsasser noted that the Lehighton Area Memorial Library will be on hand with its Annual Basket Raffle Fundraiser under the big tent, while the Lehighton Fire Company will sell tickets for the Kauffman Chicken Dinners.

She said Christmas in July is a family friendly event with plenty of crafts, games and activities for all, and added that rumor has it there might be a visit from Mrs. Claus, who will have special treats direct from the North Pole. Mrs. Claus will make a special stop in Lehighton from 10 a.m. to noon, but needs to get back to Santa to help him make toys for all the children this year, Elsasser said.

Downtown Farmers Market

In addition, Elsasser said the Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market will be held along Constitution Avenue as farmers and vendors will be there until at least noon.

She said the Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Oct. 12, and that everything there is either homegrown, homemade or handmade.
