Alvernia’s Gaston earns All-MAC honors

Cera Gaston, of Lehighton, is one of 13 Alvernia University student-athletes on the respective 2024 Spring Academic All-MAC Teams, as announced by Middle Atlantic Conference Executive Director Megan Morrison recently.

Alvernia’s 13 student-athletes on the Spring Academic All-MAC team is the most in a single season for Alvernia since the Academic All-MAC program began in the Fall of 2013.

The teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the 2024 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50% weight on both academic success and athletic success. A student-athlete must have a spring semester grade-point average of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award.

Gaston, a graduate student majoring in educational leadership, was a first team All-MAC honoree and a two-event USTFCCCA All-Region honoree. Gaston, a Lehighton Area High School graduate, took first place at the MAC Championship in the 10,000m with a time of 37:58.92, and was second in the 5,000m with a time of 17:51.53.

Gaston also took first at the AARTFC Championship in the 10,000m with a time of 37:19.48. Gaston broke school records in the 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m this season. This was Gaston’s first Academic All-MAC honor.
