Bowmanstown community day helps three groups

The second annual Bowmanstown Community Day brought people out to enjoy live entertainment, food, children’s games, and a basket auction at the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company picnic grove on Saturday.

Last year, the Bowmanstown/Parryville Lions Club, the Bowmanstown Fire Company and Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected came together to bring back the community picnic.

In past year, the Fire Company and the Lions Club had their own separate picnics; then, they combined them into one picnic. Then, about ten years ago, they stopped holding them.

“People were asking why don’t we have the picnics any more,” explained Rodney Reeser, a trustee of the fire company and vice president of BARC. “The three groups met and together, we had enough volunteers to make this happen.”

The Bowmanstown/Parryville Lions Club and BARC each sold food, plus Phil’s was on hand with their truck selling french fries, pierogies, chicken strips, and more. The fire company had a beer garden.

In addition to the food and drink, there were some games for the kids, vendors, and a large basket auction in the social hall.

Free entertainment was provided by Troubled Wine, It Takes Two, and Big Bone Daddy.

Funds raised will be divided among the three groups, and assist them in sponsoring community programs and events.
