John Williams, veteran faculty member of Nesquehoning High School, was elected principal of that school last night at a meeting of the Mauch Chunk Township School Board,

He succeeds Anthony Mezza who resigned last month.

Williams was the only applicant for the position, although another faculty member, Russell Miller, was nominated for the position.

Directors Joseph Sniscak, Vincent Marino, Joseph Lakata and Frank Deis favored Williams’ appointment while directors Johnny Nalesnik and Peter Slivka cast their votes for Miller. Joseph Gazdick was absent.

The salary of the new principal was set at $6,000. Directors said Williams will teach in addition to handling the principal’s duties.
