Local Roundup: Results from July 12

Tamaqua and Towamensing picked up wins in the Panther Valley Little League tournaments.

10-12 Tournament

Tamaqua-Anthracite

Three pitchers combined for a no-hitter to lead the Tamaqua 12s to a 10-0 five-inning win over Anthracite 11-12.

Cain Conner (2 2/3 innings, four strikeouts), Tevin Makovec (1 1/3 inning, two strikeouts) and Chayse Barron (one inning, one strikeout) came together to keep Anthracite hitless. Conner also had two doubles with an RBI and three runs scored. Jaxon Faneck doubled, tripled and had three RBIs with two runs scored.

Conner Jones had a pair of walks for Anthracite.

9-11 Tournament

Tamaqua-Towamensing

A walk-off walk helped Towamensing earn a 6-5 win over Tamaqua.

After an intentional walk to Towamensing’s Jonny Beiling, Jacob Burger brought home the winning run with the fourth walk of the inning to score Mason Burger. Towamensing tied the game when Travis Blake reached on an error and Bryce Baumgardt scored. Towamensing had just two hits in the game, with Baumgardt and Mason Sutton each collecting singles. Burger walked three times and had an RBI. Baumgardt struck out 10 in five-and-two-thirds innings on the mound.

Tamaqua rallied for four runs with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to take a lead. Kroy Tirpak walked with the bases loaded to bring in Adam Balliet, who started the two-out rally when he was hit by a pitch. A double from Evan Shannon scored Brady Bartczak, Aiden Barrett and Tirpak to make it 5-4, though Shannon was out trying to stretch it to a triple to end the inning.

PA State Little League

Major Girls Tournament

Towamensing-Titusville

Titusville turned back Towamensing to claim a 4-1 win at the PA State Little League (Major) Girls Tournament.

A second-inning double gave Titusville a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second after Towamensing tied it in the top of the inning. Titusville added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

After Titusville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Towamensing tied the game when Rylee Robertson singled to bring in a run in the top of the second. Autumn Burger also had a hit, and Peyton Graver scored a run.

Towamensing-Cain

A big fifth inning helped Cain finish off an 11-0 win over Towamensing in the opener of the PA State Little League (Major) Girls Tournament on Thursday.

Cain scored six runs in the fifth, three coming on a triple off the bat of Erris.

Addy Gulla and Leanna Sanchez each had hits for Towamensing.
