Carbon Plaza Mall eyes gate for roadway

A gate could soon be in place to make traveling less dangerous by the Carbon Plaza Mall.

Supervisor Ronald Wenrich informed the board of supervisors on Wednesday of the status.

Wenrich said he spoke with the Carbon Plaza Mall, and a gate has been prepared.

“So, that’s going to be installed shortly,” Wenrich said.

Last month, supervisors discussed the possible purchase of a sign for Mall Lane that would state, “No mall entrance,” and discourage motorists from making a U-turn.

But Supervisor Deb McGowan said she doesn’t believe it would make a difference.

Board Chairman Robert Slaw suggested last month that the township put up a gate and give it a month to see how things go.

Township roadmaster Nevin Frey noted at that time that motorists don’t pay attention to the stop sign that was installed recently at Walmart.

In May, supervisors granted permission for the Carbon Plaza to put a gate at the entrance of Mall Lane, due to the influx of traffic entering and exiting the Carbon Plaza Mall via Mall Lane.
