3 injured in Mahoning Twp. crash
Several people were injured following a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Mahoning Township.
Township police Chief Audie Mertz said the crash occurred at 1:46 p.m. at the intersection of Mill Road and Mahoning Drive West when a red Subaru Impreza was traveling from the direction of Summit Hill, hit the traffic pole and ended up on its roof.
Mertz said there were three people in the vehicle who were all injured, including the driver, a female, as well as a male passenger and a female passenger.
He said the traffic signal at the intersection remains down, and that as far as its potential replacement, that would be up to the township.
“It’s still a four-way stop,” Mertz said. “There’s stop signs at each intersection.”
Mertz said the crash remains under investigation.
He said the intersection was shut down for several hours before reopening last evening.
Mertz said also assisting at the scene were the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Carbon County District Attorney’s office, including the county detective, the Mahoning Valley Fire Department, Mahoning Valley Ambulance, and Lehighton Ambulance.
