Schuylkill 911 busy during recent storms

The Schuylkill County Communications Center handled heavy traffic during last Wednesday’s storm.

Scott Krater, Schuylkill County’s 911 communications director, told the Schuylkill County Commissioners at their Wednesday work session that the center dispatched 148 fire and Emergency Medical Services calls between 5:45 and 8 p.m. during the storm.

“They were mostly for trees and wires down,” Krater said.

The dispatch center, which has had a large turnover in dispatchers in recent years, has just had three new dispatchers complete one phase of their training, three more have just completed their classroom training, and there are still two openings in the unit.
