Lansford Borough may soon have a signed contract with its police department.
Councilwoman Michele Bartek on Tuesday said that all council members had a copy of the contract between the borough and police union.
The contract, which was undergoing revisions following binding arbitration last year, is finally complete, she said.
The borough and union had disagreed on changes made to the document and which side made the changes.
A memorandum of understanding regarding the new weapons, which were purchased this year, will be added to the contract, and the signature page will have the new borough secretary’s name, Bartek said.
She said she wanted everyone to review it for the next meeting.
“You could sign it right now,” Councilman Jack Soberick said. “That was an arbitrator’s decision. It’s done.”
Bartek said that police have to sign the document.
Soberick told her to sign it, let the police sign it, and it’s done.
“There’s nothing to vote on,” he said.
Bartek said she wanted everyone to have a copy of the agreement so there are no more problem, and then asked Council President Bruce Markovich if he’d like to sign it.
Markovich said he would like to the police union to sign the contract first, and then the borough will sign it.
“Then, we’re going to stamp one copy of the contract with original and then myself and maybe (Officer) Shawn (Nunemacher) will initial that,” he said. “This way nobody can go back and make copies or change anything.”
Bartek asked that both men sign the side of each page of the document.
