A former Tamaqua Police officer accused of child sexual abuse, manufacturing child pornography and sexual intercourse with a dog will be heading to court.
The charges against Christopher Cordes, 29, of Bloomsburg, were bound over to court following a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Columbia County.
Cordes was arrested following an investigation by the state Attorney General’s Office after a tip was received from Snap Inc. for a user posting a nude photo of a child.
The investigation found that Cores expressed that he is sexually attracted to children, including infants, and that he gave an underage victim a sexually transmitted disease. The investigation also found that Cordes was sharing child pornography.
After charges were filed in late May, Cordes was suspended from the department. He was fired last month.
The Attorney General’s office found that none of the activity occurred while he was on duty with the borough department. Borough officials noted that no other police officer employed by the Tamaqua department is under investigation by the Attorney General’s office and that no credible complaints of misconduct by any other officer had been received.
Cordes posted $250,000 bail. A court date has not been set.
