Local roundup: Results from June 28, 29, 30

Tamaqua captured the South Division title of the District 18 8-10-year-old Little League Tournament Sunday.

Elsewhere, Franklin Township earned a win in Lehigh Valley Senior Connie Mack play, while the Tamaqua 8-year-old All-Stars continued their winning ways.

8-10 South Tournament

Franklin Twp.-Tamaqua

Tamaqua captured the South Division title of the District 18 8-10-year-old tournament with an 11-6 win over Franklin Sunday.

For Tamqua, Aidan Sabol had three hits with a run scored; Bryce Tuckett was 2-for-3 with three RBIs; Grayson Smith was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored; and Bryce Bailey and Mason Murphy both had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Smith struck out seven in four innings of work and was the winning pitcher.

Jake K. (run scored), Dean K. (RBI, run scored), Owen S. (two runs scored, RBI) and Grayson S. (two RBIs) all had two hits for Franklin.

Tamaqua will face North Division champion Valley East in a best-of-three championship series beginning Wednesday 6 p.m. at Weatherly.

Four runs in the top of the sixth inning helped Tamaqua hold off Franklin Township 10-7 in the District 18 8-10-year-old tournament Saturday.

Abram Graver (2-for-3, RBI, two runs scored) and Jacob Kufro (2-for-3, two RBIs, run scored) both had multiple hits for Tamaqua, which built a 10-4 advantage in the top of the sixth. Aidan Sabol and Bryce Bailey both had a hit and two RBIs for the winners. Nolan Runk added a hit and drove in a run.

Dean K. had two hits and scored twice for Franklin, which scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Christian S. (RBI, run scored) and Bryson B. (run scored) each doubled for Franklin. Grayson S. had a hit and two RBIs.

10-12 Tournament

Valley West-Tamaqua

Valley West cruised to a 10-0 win over the Tamaqua 12s in the District 18 10-12-year-old tournament Sunday.

B. Fancher was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for Valley West. L. Gasper added two hits, including a double, two RBIs and scored a run, while N. Kalce hit a home run. J. Llibre scattered four hits over six innings, striking out nine.

C. Barron (double), J. Faneck, J. Vidzicki and P. Wilson had hits for Tamaqua.

LITTLE LEAGUE

Jim Thorpe U8 Tourney

Tamaqua-Franklin Twp.

The Tamaqua 8-year-old All-Stars rolled to a 15-3 win over Franklin Township in four innings Saturday.

Franklin piled up 15 hits in the win, with Luke Tuckett, Braxton Barrett, Lucas Brennan, George Pinkey, Rocco Biasi, Mason Keich, and Hunter Hill all had two hits for the winners. Barrett and Brennan combined to strike out six in their two innings of work, while Max Field kept Franklin at bay in the first inning with a great catch in right field.

L. Berger had two RBIs for Franklin.

With the win, Tamaqua which went undefeated in its pool, advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals.

Tamaqua-Anthracite

The Tamaqua 8-year-old All-Stars exploded for 18 hits en route to a 15-3 win in four innings against Anthracite Friday.

Hunter Hill led the charge for Tamaqua, going 3-for-3 with an inside the park home run and four RBIs. George Pinkey and Rocco Biasi also had three hits and three RBIs for the winners. Braxton Barrett and Lucas Brennan threw two shutout innings for the winners in the modified tournament.

For Anthracite, Z. Stefanick had two hits and a run scored.

Freemansburg-Franklin

A huge second inning helped Franklin Township cruise to a 14-0 win over Freemansburg in five innings Sunday.

Carter Bellis and Cole Dietz (double) each drove in three runs for Franklin (9-4), which drew 16 walks and finished with five hits. Landon Abelovsky (double) had two hits. Bellis earned the win on the mound, struck out four and surrendered just four hits over five innings of work. Brayden Ulshafer had four walks for the winners. Pierce Goida also had two RBIs and three walks.
