June 28, 1980 - The Philadelphia 76ers announce that Palmerton’s Bill Mlkvy - the “Owl without a Vowel” - is joining their staff. Mlkvy, who scored 1,421 career points as a Blue Bomber before playing at Temple, is to work in the area of public relations and group sales in upstate Pennsylvania sectors. Mlkvy, who went on to score 1,539 points with the Owls - including 73 in one game against Wilkes, will also make speaking appearances for the club. The announcement is made by 76ers President Lou Scheinfeld.
