Local roundup: Results from June 27 & 28

Franklin Township continued to roll in the District 18 10-12-year-old tournament, while Northern Valley posted its ninth consecutive victory in Lehigh Valley Senior Connie Mack play on Friday.

10-12 TOURNAMENT

Hazleton-Franklin Twp.

Undefeated Franklin Township advanced to the winner’s bracket final with an 11-0 win over Hazleton in the District 18 10-12-year-old Little League Tournament.

Jayce Hunsberger doubled among his two hits and finished with two RBIs and two runs scored. Colby Solt finished with a hit, RBI and scored a run, while Ethan Laible had a hit and scored twice. Myles Meek had a hit and scored a run, and Jayce Graham had a hit and an RBI.

Laible was dominant in four innings pitched, striking out 10 and allowing two hits. Owen Moyer closed the door with a scoreless fifth, striking out one.

Franklin advanced to the final Monday at 6 p.m. at Valley East.

9-11 TOURNAMENT

Tamaqua-Valley West

Unbeaten Tamaqua rolled past Valley West 11-1 in five innings Thursday and into the championship of the District 18 9-11-year-old tournament.

Jackson Perez had three hits for the Tamaqua 11s, including a double in the second inning to go along with three RBIs. Gavin Lutz (double, two RBIs, run scored), Aiden Barrett (two RBIs, two runs scored), Kroy Tirpak (RBI, run scored) each had two hits. Jacob Baddick (run scored) and Aiden Hernandez (run scored) each doubled in the win.

Zack Messer led Valley West with two hits.

Tamaqua will face the winner of the Valley West-Towamensing game Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bill Angst Stadium in Tamaqua.

8-10 TOURNAMENT

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

A huge second inning helped Tamaqua claim a 9-8 win over Jim Thorpe on Thursday to advance to the championship of the District 18 8-10-year-old tournament.

The Tamaqua 10s scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. Nolan Runk singled, scoring one run, while an error allowed a run to score. Grayson Smith delivered an RBI single, Bryce Tuckett and Abram Graver each had two-run doubles.

Graver and Bryce each collected two hits for Tamaqua. Graver drove in three runs.

Jim Thorpe, which defeated Tamaqua 3-2 earlier in the tournament, scored seven runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Alex E. singled, scoring one run, Julius C. singled, scoring one run, Blake D. singled, scoring two runs.

Blake led Jim Thorpe with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Julius led Jim Thorpe with two hits in three at bats.

Tamaqua will play unbeaten Franklin Township Saturday at 1 p.m. A Tamaqua win will force a winner-take-all game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Northern Vy.-Catasauqua

Northern Valley made the most of an early lead en route to a 5-3 win over Catasauqua in Lehigh Valley Senior Connie Mack play.

Parker Schaffer had two RBIs for Northern Valley (9-1), which built a 5-0 lead with a run in the second inning and four in the third. Jayden Christman and Griffin Unrath each collected a hit for Northern Valley, while Unrath also stole two bases. Christopher Vargas started and earned the win, tossing two hitless innings with three strikeouts. Christman went five innings in relief, striking out nine and allowing just one unearned run.

Luis Collazo was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Catasauqua (6-6-1), which scored twice in the bottom of the third and once in the fourth. Trevor Hartzell also had a double.

E. Stroudsburg-Jim Thorpe

A run in the top of the seventh inning helped East Stroudsburg claim a 5-4 win over Jim Thorpe in Lehigh Valley Junior Connie Mack play.

Bryce Ridner, Greyson Fuller and Luke Domboroczky each drove in a run for East Stroudsburg (14-3), while Rylan Banning stole three bases, and scored the game-winning run.

Lucas Knopf (double), Bryce McElmoyle and Jayden Rivera (double) each collected two hits for Jim Thorpe (1-14). Blake Skrimcovsky went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. Phillip Garner also had two walks.

Sch. Valley-LGH Tax

Schuylkill Valley swept LGH Tax in a Schuylkill Teener League doubleheader.

Schuylkill Valley posted wins of 8-7 and 4-3 in the twin-bill.

Lutzkanin led Schuylkill Valley with two RBIs in the 8-7 victory, going 1-for-3. Frehafer had three hits for the winners.

LGH Tax (2-7) had 12 hits and led 5-0 after the first inning. Logan Fisher had three RBIs, while Benny Baneravage had three hits. Peter Kruslicky, Carson Jones and Gabe Perilli each had multiple hits in the loss.

Three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning helped Schuylkill Valley claim a walk-off win in the second game.

Bowers (RBI), Leskin, Lutzkanin, Kimber, Herndon (RBI) and Oswald (RBI) had hits for Schuylkill Valley, while Felty also had an RBI.

Gavin Yuricheck went 1-for-1 and had two RBIs for LGH Tax. Bradley Bartlett, Gabe Perilli and Weaver each had hits. Brody Breiner, Peter Kruslicky, Lucas Strohl and Logan Fisher each had multiple stolen bases in the loss.
