Eldred store closed

The Eldred Thrift Store will be closed the entire month of August. Normal hours will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 9 a.m.

Hours in June and July are from for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Donations are accepted Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. The number at the store is 610-895-4444.

Missions dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace will host its West End Missions dinner at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Quiet Valley farm event

Monroe County’s living historical farm, Quiet Valley, will hold its Sew & Sos, beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday. It features Rye Straw Crafts Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kids at Kettle Creek

Monroe County Conservation District Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers Kettle Creek for kids ages 3-6 beginning on Thursday and held July 11, 18 and 25. Adults must accompany their child during the program.

Programs are one hour long and start at 10 a.m.

There will be different topics each week, with both indoor and outdoor activities planned, so dress for the weather and wear comfortable footwear.

There is a cost per child.

Blood drive held

The Monroe County Conservation District is hosting another Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

Concert in Ross Twp.

Tyler Shay is the performer slated to perform at the Concert in the Park, taking place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the municipal site (including the park) in Saylorsburg.

Country line dancing

American Legion, Post 927, Gilbert continues to host open to community country line dancing from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturdays.

Free lessons are offered as is a full kitchen menu. Tickets are limited.

Ross meeting

Ross Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal complex in Saylorsburg.

Chestnuthill meeting

Chestnuthill Supervisors’ meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the municipal complex in Brodheadsville.

Summer camps set

Quiet Valley summer camp is underway this week. Two more are scheduled. Coming are Farm Explorers, will run from July 8-12, and Nature Explorers Camp will be held July 15.

Monroe seniors meet

Monroe County Seniors will meet at Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, on Wednesdays and Fridays. They begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

Donations needed

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville is looking for donations of paper plates, coffee cups, napkins or plastic utensils. The items are used at the senior center in the church.

Freedom celebration

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is hosting a Freedom celebration on July 3 at 6:30 p.m. with food, fireworks and fun. The church will provide the meat, participants can sign up to bring a side dish, dessert, drinks (water, soda, iced tea, kids juices). Bring your lawn chair or a blanket.

Pastor welcomed

Effort UMC will welcome new Pastor Scott Kuhnle and his family on July 7, his first day in the pulpit at Effort, in between the church services in Wesley Hall.

All are invited to come. Desserts and pastry donations are accepted.

Pastoral Care will be doing a Welcome Basket to present to the family and is seeking gift cards and/or certificates to local restaurants, movie theaters, and area attractions. Folks who would like to contribute can contact Dee Juris, Janet Pierson, or Brenda Mitchell at the church at 570-629-1890.
