State police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:34 p.m. June 10 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said it happened when Naiya R. Gillespie, 18, of Saylorsburg, driving a 2014 Mazda 3, turned left out of a driveway but was unable to see an approaching 2008 Toyota Prius driven by Dawn M. Benninger, 44, of Stroudsburg, resulting in the collision.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.

• A driver was cited for a collision at 9:16 p.m. June 10 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police did not identify the driver of the 2012 Nissan Frontier who pulled out from the Advanced Auto parking lot without clearance and struck a 2007 Dodge Nitro. Police said both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

The driver of the Nitro was also not identified.

• A 2012 Honda Odyssey was towed from the scene of a one-vehicle crash at 9:40 a.m. May 31 at a crossover on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township.

Police said Shamia Rahman, 23, of Brooklyn, New York, was driving the vehicle when she attempted to utilize the crossover to turn around to travel east. She lost control of the vehicle while turning and the vehicle struck a tree. She was uninjured, police said.

• A 16-year-old Kunkletown boy was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 8:26 a.m. May 28 on Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was driving a 2009 Dodge Avenger northbound when it traveled through muddy debris on the road, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. It struck a guide rail off the southbound lane.

The Avenger was towed from the scene, police said.

• Two vehicles were damaged in a crash at 5:25 p.m. June 5 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said Sharon M. York, 37, of Summit Hill, driving a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, left the Monroe Plaza in an attempt to go south on Route 209 and struck a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Kamoya V. King, 23, of Effort. Police said the Sonata traveled off the roadway and landed in a wooded area. It had to be towed from the scene.

The Crosstrek was able to be driven from the scene by York, who was uninjured.

Police said King was transported by personnel from the West End Ambulance to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, Easton, for a further medical evaluation.

• Jason P. Merenda, 42, of Saylorsburg, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a two-vehicle crash at 12:42 p.m. May 11 in Kinsley’s parking lot, Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado that pulled into a parking stall and struck a 2019 Subaru Impreza. He was uninjured, police said.

• Sean E. Galligan, 34, of Pine Beach, New Jersey, was cited for following too closely after a crash at 12:46 a.m. May 25 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.

Police said he was driving a 2001 Honda Accord that struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Jorge A. Padillal, 48, of Corona, New York.

Police said the Honda sustained disabling damages while the Padillal vehicle sustained minor damages.

No one was injured in the crash.

• Two people were involved in a one-vehicle crash at 7:28 p.m. May 23 on Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said Haydyn P. Borger, 19, and a 15-year-old boy, both from Stroudsburg, were transported by personnel from the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus, Stroudsburg.

They said the crash happened when Borger, driving a 2007 Jeep Patriot northbound at a high rate of speed failed to negotiate a left curve. The Jeep went off the road, striking multiple signs and a utility pole. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Police said Borger was cited for the incident.
