SH Hootenanny offers promises food, music, games

The 11th annual Summit Hill Hootenanny Music Festival, will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in the borough’s Ludlow Park.

This year the event will have more than 14 food stands including eight food trucks and 46 vendors showcasing their crafts and businesses.

Along with the six live bands that will be performing, The Sword Tag Society will be demonstrating their archery and sword fighting skills, a free Yoga class with Lisa Mo begins at 10 a.m., and Dani Long Legs will be performing from 1-5 p.m.

The committee members started planning for this year’s event in January. Clayton Ayers had the toughest job of all by choosing the six bands that will be performing. This year’s music lineup will be Crosstie Walker, The Pennsylvania Villagers, Justin Skylar Band, Big Valley Bluegrass, Free Range Folk and Shellshocked Churchills.

Terri Kane and Elise Reabold worked countless hours recruiting vendors, collecting sponsorship donations, organizing the basket raffle consisting of nearly 100 baskets and certificates from local eateries to White Water Rafting and a Wildlife Safari.

The committee commented how members of the community have been approaching them since the end of last year’s event expressing their enjoyment at the Hootenanny how they’re looking forward to this year’s event. “We won’t let you down!” they said.

Food options for all ages in the expanded food court area including BBQ, Caribbean cuisine, Puerto Rican empanadas, Latin American cuisine, specialty jerky, roasted corn on the cob, smoked cheese and meats, homemade fudge and baked goods, fresh lemonade, a coffee truck, soft serve ice cream truck and much, much more.

A free kids’ corner will have face painting from noon to 4 p.m. kids’ corn hole, kids’ coloring contest, crafts, ground checkers, and pool for giant bubbles, as well as a kids’ only prize raffle to be announced at the conclusion of each band.

An activity area at the west end of the park will have games and blow up rides for the kids to enjoy hosted by Gombert Family Amusements.
