Eldred bridge slated for replacement

Eldred Township supervisors have alerted residents to a bridge project and detour slated to begin July 8.

Letters were sent to all residents along the route. The project is expected to last until the winter.

Eldred Chairman Gary Hoffman said the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be replacing the bridge over Princess Run on Kunkletown Road near the intersection with Fiddletown Road.

This will result in the closure of Kunkletown Road from Fiddletown Road to Kleintop Lane for car traffic and from Weir Mountain Road to Silver Spring Boulevard for commercial and/or tractor-trailer traffic.

The detour for commercial and/or tractor-trailer traffic will utilize Weir Lake Road, Route 209, Fairgrounds Road, Weir Mountain Road, Mountain View Road and Silver Spring Boulevard, all of which are state roads.

Residents should expect increased traffic on Kleintop Lane.

Hoffman said emergency service providers have been notified of the detour in an effort to minimize response time or confusion.

This project is expected to be completed before the end of the year, which means a disruption of traffic of up to six months, Hoffman said.

The bridge on Kunkletown Road that spans Princess Run is set to be replaced, beginning July 8. STACI L. GOWER/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
