Tamaqua looking at pool renovations

Tamaqua borough is looking for a consultant to prepare renovation plans for the H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool at Bungalow Park.

“Hiring a consultant will be our first step in designing the pool,” borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt recently told council.

Steigerwalt’s request for proposals for a consultant will be advertised soon.

The consultant will prepare plans and specifications for the pool, and provide contract and construction management services, he noted.

“We do have to patch the pool walls every year. The pool walls are deteriorating and leaking, which is the main reason we need to renovate the pool,” Steigerwalt said.

The borough received $1.75 million for the pool through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Recreation and Conservation Grant program in 2021.

The grant is for renovations of main pool and zero-entry splash zone, construction of pedestrian walkway and decking, installation of filtration and recirculation systems, water features and utilities and ADA access.
