Lehighton burned-out homes demolished

Two houses ravaged by fire were demolished Saturday. The properties at 322-324 N. First St. in Lehighton were destroyed Thursday evening.

Lehighton Fire Chief Patrick Mriss said the investigation is in the hands of the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, who was on the scene Thursday evening.

The fire began at 324 N. First St. around 7 p.m., Mriss said. The residents were not home.

“Thankfully, there were no injuries,” Mriss said, as fire crews battled the blaze in 90-plus degree temperatures.

Many businesses and organizations provided water, ice, Gatorade and snacks. St. Luke’s gave a donation to offset costs. The Lehighton Lions Lioness Club brought water.

Lehighton Ambulance Fire Rehab Unit 5699 assisted the area firefighters at the scene with shelter, water, snacks and medical attention.

The American Red Cross is helping the victims.

GoFundMe accounts are set up for the victims, including Jessi Ferrey and her family which includes 4-year-old daughter Cora.

It was Jessi’s 30th birthday on Thursday and Cora’s 4th birthday is today, according to the GoFundMe page.

Sapore’s is hosting a fundraiser for the family on July 10.

Christine Ferguson and her three sons also lost everything in the fire. Alfie’s has set up

a box for collections for the Ferguson family. A GoFundMe has also been set up.

Corner Cone also donated money from sales this past weekend.
