Children’s Fair to be held in Hometown

A Children’s Fair to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 6 and 7 at the Hometown Walmart.

The event will feature games and fun, along with popcorn, funnel cakes, lemonade and hot dogs, said Sharon Stokes, a Walmart employee who’s helping to organize the event.

Stokes said the Rush Township Walmart kicked off its fundraising efforts for the Children’s Miracle Network on June 10.

Donations for activities at the fair will supplement those efforts, she said.

Local resident Katie Arnold will also be selling foods, and will donate 10% of proceeds to the nonprofit organization that helps more than 170 children’s hospitals. Donations fund critical lifesaving treatments and health care services, innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, child life services that put kids’ and families’ minds at ease during difficult hospital stays, and financial assistance for families who could not otherwise afford these health services, according to the Network.

The event will be held in the store’s parking lot, just outside the Garden Center.

“It will be easy to spot,” Stokes said.

Currently, shoppers may buy lemonade or iced tea for a donation. And, Stokes said, they can choose to “round up” their purchase price to the next dollar - with those few extra cents going to the Children’s Miracle Network.

“Every dollar helps,” Stokes said.
