The Lehigh Valley team captured the Softball Carpenter Cup championship on Wednesday, defeating Delaware South 2-1 in the final.
The squad, which featured Northwestern’s Emma Freeman and Rylee McGinley, went 5-1 overall – and 2-1 in pool play Tuesday – and won three straight games Wednesday to secure its first Carpenter Cup title since 2008 and third overall.
Lehigh Valley beat defending champion Tri-Cape 8-3 in its first game Wednesday and rallied for a 6-5 victory over Berks/Lancaster/Lebanon in its second contest.
Against Berks/Lancaster/Lebanon, Freeman allowed just one hit and an unearned run in relief to close our the win.
