The District 18 Little League tournament begins Friday with three games scheduled in the 10-12 division.

Towamensing hosts Franklin Township, Tamaqua travels to Valley East, and Valley Westplays at Hazle Township.

Jim Thorpe and Anthracite received byes in the opening round and will open up play on Moday. Thorpe will face the winner of the FT-Towamensing game while Anthracite matches up against the Valley West-Hazle Township winner. Also on Monday, Tri-County will be at Hazleton.

The tournament runs through Friday, July 5 or Sunday, July 7 (if necessary) when a champion will be crowned. The district winner will then compete in sectional play.

District 18 will also hold 9-11 and 8-10 baseball tournaments.

The 9-11 tourney features four area teams - Towamensing, Tamaqua, Weatherly and Franklin Township. Play for that tourney begins on Saturday.

Saturday is also the day the 8-10 teams will be in action. Five area teams (Anthracite, Tamaqua, Franklin Township, Weatherly, Jim Thorpe) will participate in the South bracket. All of the 8-10 South games will be played at Weatherly. The winner of the South will then face the North champ for the overall title and the chance to advance.

In addition to baseball, there are three softball tournaments. Those three include a Senior Division, a 10-12, and an 8-10.
