Jennifer Lynn Eshelman of Hegins, the reigning Miss Pocono, captured the title of Miss Pennsylvania for 1983 during competition in Altoona.

The brown-hair, brown-eyed daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Eshelman won over 21 other contestants before a crowd of 3,500 people through the three-day competition held at the Jaffa Mosque, and will represent Pennsylvania in the Miss America Pageant in September in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

She won the talent segment of the contest earlier in the competition when she sang the classic aria “The Laughing Song” from the Strauss opera “The Fiedermaus.”

The music education graduate of Penn State University competed in a turquoise swimsuit and a red evening gown trimmed with gold sparkles.
