Berlitz 8th at Olympic Swim Trials Marian graduate will get another chance at qualifying for Paris Olympics on Thursday in the 200 IM

Marian graduate Danny Berlitz advanced to the finals of the 400 individual medley at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday night.

Berlitz finished eighth in the event that was broadcast nationally by NBC.

The University of West Virginia senior battled through qualifying as the field was narrowed from 84 swimmers to the final eight. In the process, the reigning Big 12 Champion set a WVU program record (4:15.98) which qualified him as the fifth seed for the finals.

In the finals, Berlitz had a time of 4:17.65. Carson Foster (4:07.64) and Chase Kalisz (4:09.39) finished first and second respectively in the event to make the United States team for the Paris Olympic Games.

Berlitz is a 2019 Marian graduate from Drums, PA. He was a four-time Times News Swimmer of the Year, capturing the award in 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19. He is also an eight-time Schuylkill League gold medalist, an eight-time District 11 gold medalist, and a four-time PIAA State gold medalist.

Berlitz will have another opportunity to earn a spot on the US Olympic team when he competes in the 200 IM on Thursday, June 20. Qualifying will take place at 11 a.m. and can be see on Peacock. The top eight swimmers based on their qualifying times will advance to the finals, which will be aired at 8 p.m. on NBC.
