Lehighton hasn’t given up on recouping a sizable amount of money it says it’s owed from a neighboring municipality.
Borough manager Dane DeWire said Monday that Weissport borough has a roughly $400,000 deficit it owes to the borough.
Lehighton officials have said the debt is for old sewer fees that dates back to the 1990s.
DeWire said he is in the process of looking at ways to help Weissport, but noted it won’t be an easy task.
Council then tabled further discussion until DeWire has a chance to speak with their staff and members of Weissport Borough Council.
In January, councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky said the borough is owed $406,822 from a municipality in a sewer-related matter that dates back to 1996.
DeWire said at that time he would look into it, but that he didn’t believe the borough could consider it as income at that time.
