Lehighton library plans events
Lots of activities are on tap this summer at the Lehighton Area Memorial Library.
For starters, there’s the library’s 2024 Summer Learning Program, which begins on Monday and runs through July 27.
Free and open to all ages, the Summer Learning Program has programs each week, including a Summer Reading Challenge, with a game board for adults, as well as a game board for children.
Children get a calendar and earn tickets that they can trade for prizes.
There is also the Summer Reading Challenge, for which Story Walk in the park begins in the borough’s lower park, goes to the upper park, and ends back at the lower park. There are different books each month, and for each book they read, they are entered into a raffle. In June and July, those who do the Story Walk get a special gift.
In addition, there are Regular Story Time and Toddler Time throughout the summer.
School-age kids programs are held Thursday evenings, though they must register with the library.
There will be a Dine & Donate from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 26 at PJ Whelihans in which 15% of the check is donated to the library (through dine-in and takeout orders).
Also as part of its Summer Learning Program, a Big Foot expert will come in at 2 p.m. July 29.
The library’s annual basket raffle will be held July 20 during the Christmas in July celebration in the borough park. The library is taking donations and baskets for the raffle.
Melissa Hawk, library director, said there is plenty to do for people of all ages.
“We have a lot going on for all ages at the library this summer,” Hawk said. “We have some new equipment, and some new programs that we’re excited about, and we hope that people will check out.
“We also have opportunities to help us raise funds to make sure that we can keep offering our programs throughout the year.”
